Chemonics seeks a country manager for USAID’s anticipated Central America Regional Trade Facilitation and Border Management Activity in El Salvador. This potential five-year project is designed to contribute to Central American countries’ broad-based economic growth by enhancing regional integration and improving trade facilitation. The purpose of the project is to improve regional trade efficiency in Central America at primary ports of entry and key economic corridors, especially in the Northern Triangle countries, reducing the time and cost of trading across borders by assisting public and private sector institutions with achieving greater trade competitiveness in the region. Program activities will take place in El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua, but the country manager will be based in San Salvador. We are looking for individuals who have a passion for making a difference in the lives of people around the world.

Responsibilities include:

  • Manage the activity’s implementation and oversee its performance, management, and operations
  • Ensure that activity deliverables are completed in a comprehensive and timely fashion
  • Work closely with the chief of party to engage a range of stakeholders representing national governments, regional organizations, the private sector, international donors, and other U.S. government agencies
  • Provide overall strategic direction in the activity’s technical areas in Guatemala, facilitating the achievement of activity objectives and targets with management and technical support
  • Ensure compliance with USAID regulations and Chemonics’ policies and systems
  • Supervise project technical staff to ensure they manage project activities and operations successfully

Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree in business administration, marketing, finance, international trade, economics, or another related area
  • Minimum of five years of relevant experience working in international business in a developing country, including three years in a supervisory position; experience working in private business and economic development projects preferred
  • Experience addressing gender gaps in economic growth projects preferred
  • Proven ability to serve as a high-level representative and work with myriad stakeholders, including U.S. and local government officials and private sector actors
  • Ability to analyze and advise on national trade policy, including on issues related to facilitating customs and trade and private sector engagement
  • Knowledge of and experience with competitiveness assessments and the monitoring and evaluation of donor-funded projects
  • Demonstrated leadership, versatility, and integrity
  • Fluency in English and Spanish required
