The Volunteer’s Role
Fundación del Rio is an environmental protection organization working in the southeast region of Nicaragua. Fundación del Rio promotes the defense, protection, and restoration of natural ecosystems in the region; the environmental education as a way of life for communities living in the Rio San Juan region; stimulate the development of alternative technologies; as well as the economic development and ecotouristic activities to improve the quality of life of the communities.
Part of the activities of Fundación del Rio includes supporting the local economic growth of the communities in the region. As a Business and Market Advisor, you will support the business activities and the development of a market access strategy that Fundación del Rio addresses in coordination with four local cacao cooperatives in the magical and tropical Rio San Juan region. You will be working with them to improve their access to different local markets as well as support the diversification of the activities of its members.

As a volunteer, you will:
Provide support for the development of a strategy that allows cooperative members to manage their farms in a sustainable way
Provide support for the development of a market access strategy
Provide support for the development of tools for members of the cooperatives to be used in sales negotiations
Provide support for the development of tools to analyze market trends and make a timely decision for production plans
Essential Academic Qualifications:
Bachelor or College Degree in Economy, Business Administration or a related field
Essential Professional Background:
At least 2 years of experience developing sustainable business plans
Experience working on market access
Experience in negotiation for sales and purchases
Experience in market trends analysis
